“I’ve got it all.”
In the spring of 2007, this thought occurred to Phil DuBois one morning. He was married to a wonderful wife whom he loved, and she loved him. They had recently adopted a great son. They had built a lovely new home a couple of years earlier. He enjoyed a successful career as a nursing home administrator, where he was respected and earned a good income. He was actively involved in his church and community. Yes, he had the “American dream.”
“And how quickly it could all change.”
Where did that thought come from? He brushed it aside.
A couple of weeks later, Phil, his wife Tammy, and their son Jamie left on a vacation trip, to introduce Jamie to their family. While visiting his family in North Carolina, the unthinkable occurred. Seven family members were involved in a car accident, which claimed the lives of Tammy, his Uncle Wendell, and his cousin Virgene. His aunts Janet and Gloria, Jamie, and he were seriously injured. He suddenly transitioned from being a husband with no children to being a single father of a teenage son. How did that happen?
Through his recovery from this horror, Phil has learned to listen to God, to know God on a much deeper level – with both his mind and his heart, to put God’s promises to the test, and to allow God to use his questions, doubts, and turmoil as he shares publicly his journey of redemption.
